It is disturbing to know that our Florida lawmakers and governor can collect millions of dollars and donate it to private companies, yet are unable or unwilling to coming up with the money needed to address the most basic needs of our taxpayers.

  • Corporate Welfare programs tax the poor to feed the rich.
  • Billions are being spent helping big businesses grow stronger.
  • You are working hard so they can make more for less.

Here are a few examples:

  • International Asset Holding Corporation's Altamonte Springs handouts.

  • Warren Buffet, one of the wealthiest men in the world, is seeking economic incentives for the privilege of serving as a taxi stand for the ultra-wealthy with one of his companies, NetJets, Inc.

  • AirTran leaving Orlando International Airport for the "greener" grasses of Atlanta's offer of $5 million in tax breaks.

  • The government just can't pick a winning team. Over $12 million was spent to "save" Cypress Gardens which turned around and filed for bankruptcy less than 2 years later. Click here to read more.
  • A medical school receiving more than just a 'shot in the arm' aid in the form of a $340 million dollar welfare package. Click here to read more.
  • Rent reversal? European airlines are being paid to be located in Orlando (by the taxpayers) while every other company is expected to pay rent for their locations. Click here to read more.

  • Corporate Welfare trumping the needs of the people? Click here to read more.
  • Companies in Florida like WalMart and Carnival are rewarded with generous tax breaks and subsidies all while driving down the wage scale. Click here to read more.
  • Definitive corruption within the FBI with over 2200 public official cases. How much opportunity would there really be without promises of corporate welfare handouts? Click here to read more.

* Corporate Welfare: A government's bestowal of grants and/or tax breaks on one or more corporations or other "special favorable treatment" from the government. Usually these actions are seen to be at the expense of the citizens, although in the case of "wealthfare" unevenly distributed to different corporations, they might be seen as at the expense of other corporations as well.

It is any government spending program that provides unique benefits or advantages to specific companies or industries, to the detriment of competing companies. Government often touts corporate welfare as “economic development” or “increased employment”. But when it causes competing companies to lay off employees or go out of business, employment is not increased, and the lack of competition encourages prices to increase. And you are paying for it.
